the Balladeer

This group is meant for anyone with a profound love for, or anyone who loves to sing the irish ballad. As badge for this group I uploaded a pic of Luke Kelly, balladeer. This should say enough about what I have in mind, I think...Luke Kelly and Ronny Drew were, so to speak,  "My Founding Fathers" concerning Irish music, and I fear we will never see their likes again...Anyway, if Sean Nos is not entirely your thing, and you want to talk Dubliners, Paddy Reilly or the Fureys kind of stuff, this is the place :-) Welcome to my virtual pub !!

Hi all!!

And welcome to all the new folk who joined the group, I know I haven't been very active lately, but hey, lots of work....Anyway, make yourselves comfortable, and if you have a song to post, a good place to do so would be the group-page A Song for a Beer....So don't be shy, give us your best :-) While you sing, I'll do the rest :-) Some clapping of hands, a whoop and a cheer, the one that sings earns himself a beer :-)

Hello Dick Glasgow, I don't call my self a great singer but like singing ballads, mostly at our local folk club and usually unaccompanied but only because I don't know what key I'm singing in I love it when people do play along, last year I was in Ireland for the music and sessions but didn't know the right places, next I hope to find the right places, so you never know we may meet one day. If you like Luke kelly try to listen to Liam Weldons Dark horse on the wind

I first heard Luke Kelly sing with the Dubliners in Clonmel, back in 1971 & I've been a fan of a good song ever since. In Trad circles though, Ballads are so often regarded as persona non grata, but although I don't sing myself, I do enjoy playing them along with a good singer, that's why we have our very own Ballads & Tunes session up here in the Bushmills Inn, every Saturday night. Cheers. :-)

By the way, in a way my own father was my founding father from my early childhood I can remember him singing, songs by perry como frankie lane and such crooners, so from a very early age I've been singing as well, but at an age of about siteen I found I  got very interested in the Dubliners and specially Luke Kelly but later on any Irish songs with a "good story" also enjoy listening to Sinead o'Connorand last year discovered, via facebook Liam Weldon he to was a great Sean nos singer
