The Hammered Dulcimer in Ireland!

In Dublin, in the early 1700s, in the days before Accordions, Concertinas, Banjos, Bouzoukis, Concert Flutes & Guitars reached Ireland, the Hammered Dulcimer was being used to play Irish Music. So it's only right that it shares the spotlight on this Irish Music site. If you play the Hammered Dulcimer, please join this group.See More

Hi Dick,

Many thanks for joining the Carolan group - and on becoming our 30th member. I hope you get lots out of it and have fun with it. This group actively encourages its members to contribute in all areas and I welcome suggestions for any improvements I can make to the group content.

Kind regards,

Mike

Sorry, I was confused. You certainly meant the Irish concertina website, not the group. Yes, I had a look at it, but not a very close one I must admit. Will come back later.

Hi,

No, actually I didn't know. I don't believe Isaac is
a very common name in many music circles. I was once
told it was a good jazz name once loll. I think I remember
hearing of a piper with the name, could be mistaken
though.

Hi Dick, great to hear from you. I saw your session on TV the other week, very good.I must try to get up some time. I would see Pete Mc Cune from time to time but not as much now he is in your part on the world. I play them all and collect as I find them.I bought the Gibson mandolin in a pawn shop in S Africia for around a tenner with the orig.case which was good. The Clareen would befirst pick on the banjo side and I like the Eastman mandolin best.Never been that luckly to find a Paragon but still looking.George

Thanks Dick for the name of that tune, names, one of my weak points I would know the tune by ear but mind blank when asked the name of a tune.

By the way the lady guitarist in that clip is from near your end of the country she is from Belfast area, was down here in Offaly on an art scholarship very talented banjo player also.
