With deep Asturian and Breton roots this Canadian brother and sister duo have quickly emerged at the top of the international Celtic music world, winning 2010 Top Traditional Group and 2011 Top Duo at the Irish Music Awards. Since 2009 Qristina and Quinn have also received three Canadian Folk Music Award nominations, a Western Canadian Music Award nomination and four 2013 Vancouver Island Music Awards nominations, winning Young Performer of the Year.
This powerhouse duo have a musical bond that only siblings can share. With a musical connection reminiscent of other Canadian family groups such as Leahy, The Barra MacNeils or The Rankins, audiences everywhere are quickly falling in love with Qristina and Quinn. Born & raised on Canada's West Coast, with its tolerance for experimentation and improvisation, the siblings have always been encouraged to find their own ‘voice’, explore all kinds of other musical traditions and borrow bits of different styles to come up with their own distinctive sound.
Known for her expressive fiddling style and soulful vocals, Qristina is a consummate performer who is clearly at ease on stage. She consistently captivates her audience with a spirited performance that showcases not only her fiddling and vocal talents, but also her energy and love of Celtic music. As a vocalist, Qristina enjoys performing a repertoire of original and traditional songs that bring out deep emotions with which people can easily relate.
With diverse musical talents and a bottomless pool of creativity, Quinn is recognized as the "Young Lion" of the Celtic guitar (Daniel Lapp) and "Canada's top Celtic guitarist" (Ashley MacIsaac). A gifted multi-instrumentalist and creative player, Quinn adds a contemporary edge to traditional Celtic music; his unique harmonies, hard-driving strumming, inventive chord voicing and powerful rhythmic effects make even the most well-worn tunes seem new and exciting. An in-demand sideman, Quinn has also toured nationally and internationally performing with Canadian fiddling icons Ashley MacIsaac and Natalie MacMaster. Quinn has also recorded the Celtic Guitar, Irish Bouzouki and Bodhran tracks for the popular software program "Band-In-A-Box".
Qristina and Quinn Bachand have performed at major Folk and Celtic festivals across Canada, the U.S. and Europe and have been featured on national and international print, radio and television programs.
