Video Short - Tola Custy on traditional music

A short but interesting little clip of Tradconnect member Tola Custy talking about music. Starting the school day with a tune, a dance and a prayer.  Its no wonder Clare is the hear beat of music.  The music is about people he says and how very true.  That is what we are trying to achieve here, connecting people and…

New Pipe and Fiddle album from Emmett Gill and Jesse Smith

Here is a sample of some of the music being produced by Emmett Gill and Jesse Smith who have a new album out at the moment called the rookery.  They play uilleann pipes and fiddle respectively.  I had the pleasure of knowing and listening to Emmett as a young piper many years ago in London and his talent was self evident even at that time.

The album…

Album Review - The Outside Track / Flash Company

Being blunt for a moment, Flash Company is a bloody good album by any measure. It is smart, sophisticated, well produced and layered with some great tracks grounded in traditional music.  The Outside Track are getting quite a reputation for their very polished take on folk and traditional music.  This album builds on that reputation and their previous…

Here is something different from a band called Barrule who's traditional music from the Isle of Man shares a lot in common with our own.  Named after the famous hill where it is said the ancient Celtic God Manannan mac Lir once dwelled in his mighty fortress, Barrule is a mission undertaken by three musicians to take the unique sound of traditional Manx music to the…

Now based in…
