First listen to the new Kirsten Allstaff album 'Gallowglass

Kirsten Allstaff will be known to many people as one of the founders of The Online Academy of Irish Music, the online resource for learning traditional music. She teaches a number of courses on flute and whistle which are well worth checking out.  Gallowglass is her debut album and she is joined by a number of well know musicians including John Joe Kelly (Bodhrán), Eoin O’Neill (Bouzouki), Mhairi Hall (Piano), Jean Damei (Guitar), Jon O’Connell (Double Bass), Tony Trundle (Percussion) and Adam Shapiro (Fiddle).  The Gallowglass is the name of the album and for those interested The Gallowglass were a group of Scottish warriors who settled in Ireland during the 13th - 16th centuries. This fits it very well with Kirsten's own Scottish roots.

Here is track 2 from the album that starts with a Shetland reel called Sleep Sound in Da Mornin. The second tune The Lass of Ballintra she learnt from Scottish fluter Kenny Hadden. The 3rd tune in the set is called John Blessing's Reel is also known as 'Charlie Harris's' of 'The Creamer's Reel'.
