Event Description

Laoise Kelly (harp), Tola Custy (fiddle) and Cormac Breatnach (whistles), known as Albiez Trio bring their unique style of Irish trad music to Mermaid. They first got together, as an ensemble, at the CeltiCimes music festival, Albiez in the Alps in July of this year. As a trio with varied backgrounds, their music has many influences from many regions. Cormac’s music is highly influenced by jazz and blues and his playing can be heard on more than 50 albums with various artists, including Sonny Condell, Andy Irvine, Peirce Turner, and Brendan Power. Laoise Kelly is regarded as the most significant harper of her generation and has recorded with many of Ireland’s foremost artists including The Chieftains, Sharon Shannon and Dónal Lunny. Tola Custy is one of our busiest artists, composers, and recording musicians on the Irish music scene. The trio will be joined on the evening by Theo Dorgan.Theo is a published prose writer, editor and translator. He has also written scripts for film documentaries and worked as a presenter of literature programmes on radio and television for over 25 years. The evening's performance will feature a contemplative exchange between music, words and poetry. Supported by Poetry Ireland and Wicklow County Council.
