Event Description

Fiddle Music is an innovative and groundbreaking album from Dublin fiddle player Danny Diamond (Mórga, Danny and Aki). On Fiddle Music Diamond combines traditional music inspired by legendary fiddlers such as Tommie Potts and Seán Keane with influences from Nordic and American folk music, all set to unique drone-based accompaniment.

In a 5-star review in The Irish Times (August 1st 2014), Siobhán Long described Diamond's playing as 'ambitious and authoritative' and acclaimed the album as a 'definite contender for CD of the year'. Daniel Neely writing in The Irish Echo (August 6th 2014) hailed Fiddle Music as 'a brilliant album that reflects both a high-level professional engagement with the music's deeper history and also a grounded understanding of what the current trends are.'

The album will be launched with a concert on Thursday 21st August in The Cobblestone, North King Street, Dublin 7. Danny will be joined on the night by guest musicians Dermy Diamond (fiddle), Eoin Ó Beaglaoich (concertina), Aki (nyckelharpa), Ian Lynch (uilleann pipes) and Anna Lethert (sean-nós dance). Selections of the artwork created for the album by Belfast artist Susan Hughes will also be displayed during the launch.

Admission: €10 / Concession: €8 (oap/student/unwaged) / Admission + Fiddle Music CD: €15 / Doors: 9.00pm
