Waltons New School of Music’s Bluegrass Slow Jams are open to anyone who wants to experience playing and singing bluegrass standards at a moderately slow tempo and in a supportive, educational and fun jam setting. The primary emphasis is on participants playing and hearing basic chord changes cleanly and in time. We will also work on arrangements of the selected material, and participants will learn how to begin a song, how to order solos, how to end a song, and how to communicate with the other musicians. They will also build up a repertoire of bluegrass, folk, gospel and country blues songs and learn how accessible and enjoyable playing with other musicians can be.
Bluegrass Slow Jams take place on Friday evenings 6.30 – 8 pm at the school, and both New School and external students/players are welcome. The jams are supervised by a New School bluegrass teacher, and song lyrics and chords are available on our website.
Currently-enrolled students at the New School are asked to contribute €3 at each session, and external students/players are asked to contribute €6, to help cover supervisor fees and expenses.
