Ceol na Coille Summer School in Letterkenny, County Donegal, is putting together its busiest programme so far as it prepares to welcome record numbers from Monday 13th July to Friday 17th July.
Another top notch line-up of tutors is being assembled for a big variety of classes hosted at an excellent venue, the brand new Coláiste Ailigh Irish-medium secondary school. A series of concerts, recitals, sessions and more is being organised.
This is the fourth year of the Ceol na Coille Summer School. It’s getting bigger every year. Last summer there were 17 classes as well as concerts and recitals from the likes of We Banjo 3 and the groundbreaking Treelan.
Organiser Paul Harrigan says, “We’ve a lot of returning students as well as those from home and abroad who’ve heard good reports about what’s happening. This year the week falls between Milltown and Drumshanbo, two massive events in the trad calendar. We hope people will come here to fill the gap!”
The exciting new band The Trí Tones will play a concert on Thursday 16th July. The renowned Belfast piper Robbie Hannan will be among those in a pipes and fiddle concert on Tuesday 14th July. Other concerts and recitals will be confirmed later.
Tutors lined up so far include the members of The Trí Tones, Tara Breen on fiddle, Conor Moriarty on button accordion, and Stephen Rooney on guitar (Tradconnect Album of the year 2014) Paul Meehan (Banjo); Carmel Gunning (tin whistle); Roisin Harrigan (fiddle); and Paul Harrigan (pipes, accordion).
Robbie Hannan and Jesse Smith in concert on Tuesday 14th July in the Regional Cultural Center and The Tri-Tones in the RCC on Thursday 16th. Session Trial throughout the week. Check ceolnacoille.ie for more details.
