The poet and novelist Dermot Bolger joins the great John Sheahan for a relaxed and intimate public conversation that will provide a rare insight into Sheahan’s music and the experiences that shaped him as a person.
Sheahan is a legend of Irish music - the last surviving member of the original line-up of that world famous band, The Dubliners, but also a noted composer in his own right of such classics as The Marino Waltz and someone who has more recently acquired a considerable reputation as a poet, publishing his debut collection of poems, Fiddle Dreams, in his 76th year.
During a free-flowing Saturday morning chat, both men will read from their poetry and Sheahan will reminisce about the famous friends and musicians with whom he embarked on a life-long journey through music. He will, of course, play some of his most beloved tunes. It promises to be a special occasion.
Dermot Bolger is one of Ireland best known writers whose novel, The Lonely Sea and the Sky, about the brave crew of the small Wexford ship, The Kerlogue, that carried out a famous wartime rescue, is republished in softback later this spring. His performance at last September's Write By The Sea Festival, which included readings from the same novel, was an emotional tour de force.
