Event Description

Mermaid SOUNDS presents New Frontiers of Folk. Gavin McCabe (Cujo Family) is curating an alternate and exciting night of folk – but not folk as you know it! Gavin has selected three Irish acts who are reviving the art of folk music.

Ye Vagabonds

Ye Vagabonds are brothers, Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn. They began playing music together on the streets of their hometown and forged a style based on close harmonies and acoustic instrumentation inspired by various folk traditions. Two years ago they moved to Dublin and quickly became familiar faces around the city’s folk and blues session scene. They host a Monday night folk session in Walsh’s pub, Stoneybatter which has gained renown for its openness and diversity. As yet, the only available recordings of their songs are in the form of two videos shot by filmaker Myles O’Reillyearlier this year.

Dylan Walshe

Dylan Walshe is an alternative roots artist from Dublin, whose varied palette draws from traditional Irish and European folk, to North African and Americanised blues, but his sound is his own. He is known for his robust guitar playing and warm unique vocal style. Where songwriting is his craft and his lyrics are both insightful and poetic.

"Love Dylan's voice and the way he's using it" - Christy Moore

Conor Linnie

Conor Linnie's songwriting style blends together a driving rhythm with intricate melody lines to create a complex folk sound. From Bray, Co Wicklow, Linnie first began playing music in his local DIY scene where he shared the stage with musicians who would go on to form now well known acts such as Heathers and Enemies. Now he has grown and developed his own unique musical style of 'wild ecstatic folk'.

"A star has to be bright to shine in the crowded universe that is Irish folk - but Conor Linnie is a supernova." - The Irish Daily Star

Gavin McCabe is a singer/songwriter born in County Wicklow. His songs are direct and emotional with beautiful lyical sensibility in his music and words; not surprising since he is also an accomplished writer. He is guitarist and vocalist with Cujo Family.

This will be a partly standing, cabaret style gig with plenty of tables for you to enjoy your drinking and dancing!
