Acclaimed traditional Scottish fiddler Ryan Young who was named ‘ Up and Coming Artist of the Year at the 2016 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music awards will be playing at the Cobblestone Dublin on Thursday 10th May. Ryan was recently nominated for a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award 2018 and has also just been named as ‘Musician of the Year 2018’ at folking.com
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Aly Bain in Scotland and Martin Hayes in Ireland, Ryan was described by BBC Radio 3 as “...virtuoso Ryan Young, leading the 'New Wave' of traditional Scottish fiddlers”.
He is undoubtedly one of the finest young fiddlers in the traditional scene breathing new life into old and forgotten tunes, with his inventive and modern interpretations. Ryan's unique style has arisen from his influence from both Irish and Scottish traditional music, lending both harmonies and tensions to his music. Ryan has drawn praise for his 'depth of dynamics and precision''.
Ryan has played at the Willie Clancy Summer School and has also previously played in Ireland with both Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill.
Anyone who wants to experience some of the most exciting contemporary fiddle playing should get along to the Cobblestone for Ryan's debut performance in Dublin
