Sessions day and night, plus 80 performances over 6 days; now that's a festival not to be missed.
The Waterboys and Jools Holland''s Rhythm & Blues Orchestra have been confirmed as the first Sligo Live 2015 headliners. Ireland's premier Folk, Roots & Indie Festival enters its second decade of quality music on the Wild Atlantic Way from 21st – 26th October 2015. With all festival performances in fantastic indoor locations across beautiful Sligo town, visitors will be treated to the full festival experience without ever having to get mud on their boots. Weekend Ticket/ Hotel Accommodation offer (€309/£242) includes 3 nights’ accommodation in the four star Sligo Park Hotel, one evening meal and a Festival Weekend Ticket which covers The Waterboys, Jools Holland, the 3 nights Festival Club and all Sligo Live sessions, concerts and events. - Now that truly is a Festival NOT TO BE MISSED.
Sligo Live is the perfect event for music lovers looking for a weekend away, particularly U.K. visitors who can fly into Ireland West Airport, Knock, only 45 minutes from Sligo, from Stansted, Gatwick, Luton, Glasgow Prestwick, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and East Midlands.
Highlights include some of the most today’s dynamic traditional performers playing in concert and in sessions. Sligo’s pubs welcome musicians and the festival is an opportunity to enjoy a long weekend of swapping tunes; interspersed with listening to traditional and other roots music genres in intimate concert settings. Your biggest problem over the weekend is deciding what to do next!
Sligo Live hosts the Fiddler of Dooney competition, initiated by Sligo Town CCE in 1965. It is named after W.B. Yeats poem of the same name and is considered by many to be second in prestige to the All-Ireland. The list of previous winners is like a who’s who of traditional fiddling.
Headline shows are in the Knocknarea Arena at Sligo Institute of Technology rated by many music industry professionals as having one of the best sounds in Ireland, with 80 additional concerts, sessions and events in the Hawk’s Well Theatre, The Model, and other clubs, pubs and performance spaces around the centre of Sligo, Early Bird weekend tickets including seats at all events (€126/£99) are available from www.sligolive.ie and www.Ticketmaster.ie until 31st March when weekend ticket prices will increase. Many events are free and individual tickets will be on sale for ticketed events.
