Born into a family steeped in the art of traditional music and song, this distinctive album, from one of Fermanagh's finest voices, Brendan Nugent, has long been awaited. Brendan, son of All-Ireland fiddle and céilí band maestro Sean Nugent, and a brother to a host of All-Ireland winning champions, now takes this opportunity to share with us the talent which saw him achieve his own All-Ireland success, in Ennis (1977) and Buncrana (1979).
Interspersed with Brendan’s ballads are a collection of traditional tunes, drawn heavily upon the compositions of Sean Nugent, which are performed by his daughter Áine, his brother, Laurence, and family friends – Adrian Connolly, Fintan McManus, and All-Ireland winner, Priscilla Connolly.
Joining Brendan and friends on the night, are a host of talented and respected musicians including ...
Líosa Murphy, who is known world-wide for her traditional Irish folk singing, and is also an accomplished whistle player. She has toured over 30 countries in the past decade, and is constantly in demand as a vocalist for numerous international Irish music and dance productions.
Brenda McCann - an All-Ireland champion and 'Fiddler of Dooney' award winner. She has toured America and Canada, and has two solo recordings to her credit; Blackbirds and Thrushes, and Inishkeeragh.
Edel McLaughlin, who comes from Burnfoot in Inishowen, Co. Donegal. She is a multi All Ireland winner, lifting the title for Piano Accordion in 2008, as well as the Piano title in 2013. Her music has brought her to different parts of the world including the Shetland Islands, San Francisco, Norway, Spain and Germany. She has also contributed to numerous high profile albums as a guest artist.
Fermanagh's John McCann completes the lineup, and we will delighted to have the 2016 U-18 Button Accordion winner contribute to the night's proceedings with his lively style of accordion playing.
