The Naughton brothers, Colm and Finbarr, hail from Creggs, Co. Galway and have played Traditional music on a wide variety of instruments for a small number of decades living life on the edge (of County Galway), currently on the Mayo side in Clonbur and Cross. They have joined forces with fellow musician Tony Campbell, who cut his musical teeth on the Dublin session scene and subsequently with groups Setanta and Kinnell, in a new project that features the mandolin family of instruments. Although Irish Traditional music has been played on mandolin for a number of decades, it rarely gets the spotlight these days. The purpose of this show is to give the audience an opportunity to hear this wonderful instrument on its own and in the company of less-well-known family members, the tenor mandola and mandocello. The group’s focus is on Traditional material but the emphasis is on newly developed arrangements for the instruments. Apart from dance tunes typically associated with trad music you can expect to hear music from the harping repertoire, waltzes and the odd Scott Joplin rag and old Mississippi Blues tune for good measure. If you like strings, you'll love this!
