I have for sale my circa 1915 17 fret 21 inch Orpheum No 1 Tenor banjo
For Sale: Orpheum No 1 tenor banjo
United Kingdom ( Leicestershire )
This banjo has a 17 fret fingerboard and a 12 1/8 inch head with a scale length of just over 21 inches. The head fitted at the moment is the frosted mylor type which is almost new and completely unmarked but in addition I will supply a spare brand new Remo Renaissance head and a fiberskyn style 12 1/8 head as spares. The tuners have been replaced with geared tuners I have the original friction tuners which I will also supply.
At around 100 years old this banjo's fingerboard and neck show their age with several nicks and dings but these are purely cosmetic and the pot is in excellent condition and the banjo plays fine with a really sweet tone.
A lot of the metal parts have been replated.
The Rettberg and Lange makers label has gone missing at sometime but it is the genuine article with the serial number 12128 stamped on the dowel peg and the patent number 724833 on the inside of the rim.
Which I believe puts the banjo at about 1921 as you can see the holes where the manufacturers name plate was mounted.
There is a very good hard skin case which, with the addition of a a piece of foam under the banjo head fits the banjo like a glove. My reason for selling is that I need to make some room.
Postage to be paid by the buyer according to cost and I can accept PayPal or a personal cheque but if a cheque I will post the banjo as soon as it has been cleared by my bank.
Email me for more details, photos or questions and there is a youtube video below of me playing the banjo
