TradConnect is delighted to inform members that the Group Feature has now been turned on. What does this mean ? Well you may have noticed that a couple of groups already existed on the site for some of the Summer School. However we were waiting until we got past the magic 500 members before turning on the feature for all members. We have already written a more technical page on Groups which you can find under the Groups Tab. However here is a more broad outline view of what you can do.

What You Can Do

  • Groups allows you to bring people together that have a common interest. As membership grows we will use it to group people by county, state or country. It will be central to how we connect people. However Groups can be use for a variety of other purposes. You may want to start a group for all things related to fiddling, concertina, learning, tune sharing. It could be a Dervish fan club, a Tommy Peoples supporters group, Donegal fiddling group, musical heritage, history of Irish music, instrument repair, festival club, the Clare Young Musicians Group, Matt Cranitch Fiddle Book learners group, Irish Dancers. You get it. The list is endless and only limited by your imagination.

  • There is no limit to what can be achieved with groups. If you are organising a small festival you can form a Group Committee and use it to organise matters. If you play or take part in any activity that involves 5+ people you can use it as the point that everyone goes to for information. From there you can email everyone with the press of a button, schedule events etc. It's really up to you.

  • A a group creator you will have administrative control over the members that join your group. You can appoint other members to help you and give them control. Please remember that our site guidelines apply to the content within your group, so keep it above board.

  • Finally you can make your groups Private or Public. If you make them Private all content is private to you the Group Creator and your members. Members joining your private group will also need to be approved.

What You Cannot Do.

  • For now you cannot set up a group that is commercial in nature.
  • You cannot set up a group to solely promote your business or external website if it is commercial in nature.
  • You cannot set up a group to seek to divert members to alternative websites that has content that TradConnect may be incorporating into this site. This would relate to content that you would expect to see on TradConnect but is not yet here, even if it is non commercial in nature. This could cover festival news, session listings, musician biographies etc.
  • You cannot set up groups that have no connection in some small way to traditional music in all it's forms and types, musical heritage or history. We will be fairly broad in our interpretation of this.
  • The group must be active and provide original discussion, information, content on TradConnect and cannot be used to simply divert members to other sites.

The above bullet points can't possibly cover all the don't. However we will know it when we see it.If in doubt please drop us an email.

Group Review

In order to prevent dormant groups from cluttering up the site TradConnect will review Group activity on a regular basis, and will discuss with the Group Creators the option of deleting groups that have not had activity for a prolonged period of time.
