Traditional Irish Music
Hi Folks,
Thought I would see if I could kick off some discussion on the guitar in celtic music. Its a relative newcomer to the tradition and there are such a variety of ways to play it. Different styles of chordal backup, fingerstyle solo tunes, flatpicking tunes, etc. Not to mention the various number of tunings available.
I play mostly in CGDGCD, arranging fingerpicking tunes and playing rhythmic backup with a pick. Lately I have also been flatpicking in Drop D, which is fun. I enjoy players like John Doyle, Steve Baughman, Tony Mcmanus, Robin Bullock, and Martin Simpson, to name a few.
Looking forward to hearing from others.
