Traditional Irish Music
A festival dedicated to the memory of the last of the great fiddle masters Patrick (Pádraig) O'Keeffe is held annually in Castleisland CO.Kerry. It happens every October Bank holiday weekend and the dates are the 23-26th of October for this year. This will be the 28th year of the festival.

The festival consists of classes on fiddle, accordion banjo, concertina, flute, uileann pipes, guitar and whistle, Sliabh Luachra Fiddle Recital, Pop Up Gaeltacht, Céilidhne, Singing sessions and concerts as well as the famous session trail (45 organised sessions with over 110 professional musicians playing in the pubs throughout the town. Two grand concert take place on the Saturday and Sunday night. Last year the Saturday night concert was headlined by Téada and Séamus Begley with special guests:
-Derek Hickey, Macdara O'Faolain, Catherine McHugh -Jimmy Crowley and
Nicky and Anne McAuliffe. The main event of the weekend is the Sunday night concert where the 'Dedication to the Music of Sliabh Luachra Award' is presented. Past winners include Paddy Cronin, Johnny O'Leary, Maurice O'Keeffe, Denis McMahon and Mikey Duggan just to name a few. 2019 it was the turn of Jackie Daly, and the concert was built around Jackie. Buttons and Bow's, Niamh Parsons, Matt Cranitch, Paul de Grae, Timmy Connor's Caoimhe & Éimear Flannery, Paudie O'Connor & Aoife Ní Chaoimh and Patsy Broderick.
Way back in 2001 Mike Kenny (RIP) the festival chairperson summed up the spirit of the festival in a few words. "There's always time for the music," he smiles. "What we wanted to create with this festival was a place where musicians could enjoy playing, and enjoy hearing one another play and sing. I think we've managed that well enough here." This has remained true to this day.
