Hello

My Son is in dire need of a half set or a full set of Ullieann pipes  (if the price is right). His practice set is well worn and no longer up to the task, his skills surpass the practice level.

I am looking at purchasing in the UK, are their any sites or forums where I can get a review of the Pipemakers.

Waiting lists in the London Region can be very long and one such pipepmaker is at 4 years. Our need is more pressing, however I cant afford making a mistake, been there before with a cad up north. Does anyone have a review of McNicholls in Scotland, his sound files on youtube are very impressive. The distance of communications and delivery dont worry me if the the maker is quality and reliable.

So anyone have a review or experience of his pipes.

Kenny makes good pipes.  I believe he may also be a member of this site.

Offhand, I would say Gordon Galloway in Kinlochleven and Sam Lawrence somewhere in England are also making good pipes, but they may have waiting lists.  You'd have to contact them and ask, though.

You're unlikely to find "reviews" of pipes the same way that you find reviews of things like cars, but you may get some good info if you ask for recommendations on Chiff and Fipple.  That site probably gets more traffic than this one.

You might give my friend a try.

Endorsement - he made Finbarr Furey's drones.

Brian is making some superb sets

I don't know how long waiting lists are but Donnacha Keegan in Leixlip, Co Kildare makes pipes. He was the apprentice of the late great Johnny Bourke who also taught Davy Spillane about pipe making.
Contact details can be found here at the pipers website - http://www.pipers.ie/makerpage.asp?seq=78

best of luck :)

Have you given any thought to buying a used set?
