One of the biggest challenges on Tradconnect relates to the discussion forums. This is a resource that if used properly can provide insight and assistance to our many members involved with the arts and traditional music.  It can be used to explore ideas and to gather information.  This is particularly important in the modern age when the pace of change, new ideas, advances in technology etc present challenges to artists. Tradconnect also uses the forum to gather feedback and opinions for future articles that we may publish.  Other members might likewise start discussions for the same purpose.  The discussion forum is not critical to the success of the site and we would prefer to have fewer discussions, but discussions of a higher quality.

The challenge relates to the tendency for discussions to very quickly go off topic and descend into an argument between members.  There is no right or wrong in these situations and at the end of the day everyone has an opinion. These situations should not however be allowed to undermine the overall goals that we set ourselves on Tradconnect.  Those goals include the creation of a "strong, supportive and positive community of traditional musicians" Anything that undermines that goal is not acceptable to us.

Should members feel the need to talk in an insulting or derogatory manner to other members then we would suggest you do so in private.  If we see discussions heading in that direction we will act quickly and refer people back to this item.  This is not censorship.  It is simply a request for the same professional courtesy to exist on Tradconnect as exists in most professional organisations.
