Guys

I thought you might be interested in trying out a new software tool developed by some of my colleagues in the audio research group in DIT. Its called Riffstation and it has a whole load of audio processing tools such as chord analysis, time and pitch modification etc., but most interestingly for me, it can be used to isolate the different instruments in a recording. Ive used it to remove piano and guitar accompaniment for example so you can isolate the melody instrument for tune learning.

You can also slow down and transpose the instrument. Its rather cool and 100% developed in Ireland!

I've made a YouTube video demo here:

And you can download a free trial from their website to try it out for yourself:

Let me know how you get what you think...

Hi Bryan, this looks really interesting. Any plans for Mac version or iOS App?
Here's hoping!

I know the guys have a test version running the Mac right now, so its pretty close to release

Wow .... !   Just spent 10 mins with the demo program.   Its excellent!    I love the way it automatically starts and ends selections on the beat, and shows the speed in BPM, and the automatic metronome.

Some things I'd love to see in future versions:

  • Audio marks (like Anystation Pro)
  • Delay before playback and/or loop (like Amazing Slow Downer)
  • Ability to increase tempo for each repeat of loop

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your comments!

Thanks for the suggestions too! We have already thought of including audio marks and an optional delay before playback. They are in the to-do list for future versions.

The third suggestion "Ability to increase tempo for each repeat of loop" is a great one. I can see that function being very useful. Nice one!

Cheers!

Looks impressive, tried downloading it 19/5/12 but got a malicious file notice

Hi Paul,

We are aware that some antivirus software thinks Riffstation is malicious.  Unfortunately, it takes the antivirus companies quite some time to update their databases. I can assure you that the file is safe.

Cheers

Dan (Riffstation)

Thanks Dan

Interesting Bryan ... I wonder, is there also a tool for removing bad accompanists from Sessions? ;-)

Perhaps I'll find it at ~ http://www.toeupthearse.com
