Can anyone advise on the best way of uploading sound files onto this site from your computer. A member has asked and I'm struggling to give the best advise.

I don't think you can, unless you link to clips hosted elsewhere?
Your best bet is to use something like box.net
It would be great to start a catalogued repository of .mp3s.  Has anyone tried using the media attachment icon or the 'attach files (5mb limit) on this page?  I've attached a file to see what happens... please let me know.

How did you do that ? Its part of my long term plan to have a tune library on the site but i just havent had time to work out the best way to do that yet. If there are any smart IT types on TradConnect your thoughts and ideas would be well recieved.
Hey Tony, I'll investigate some techniques for moving around the .mp3 files and get back with you tonight when I get off work ;).  In the meantime, use the little blue highlighted link below.  We can add three .mp3s at once, as long as they are all below 5mb each.  I want to explore how they may be moved around or manipulated on the website...

Just bear in mind the whole copyright issue.. :(

What i'm saying is, that it might be better not to host anything doubtful on TradConnect itself..

With you mate. Its for a member to upload their own audio

I agree.  Members shouldn't upload files that aren't represented as their own, or readily available as a free resource.

Please remember to support hard-working artists financially whenever possible. Most artists depend on income from audio files and concerts for their livelihoods, and for their future ability to continue the art...

I used a free .mp3 already available on my school website; The Riley School of Irish Music, which are recorded by school staff and are intended to be downloaded by anyone as learning materials.  For anyone interested, there are slow/fast/accompanied and unaccompanied versions available for free on the website:  http://www.rileyirishmusic.com/modules/home/ .

After the .mp3s (or other media files)  have been uploaded to TradConnect, anyone can freely take the files and move them into one of their own personal computer's directories (if the files have not been properly protected by copyrighting or other watermarking software).  The media can easily be transferred to another location within TradConnect or any other website, or onto thumbdrives, music players, jukeboxes, CDs, DVDs etc.  I don't know whether it would be prudent to explain details of how to do this in a discussion forum,  as it may contribute to sharing unprotected personal music, photo and video files that artists weren't intending to share.  I hope fans do always remember to respect and support original artists that they love.

The copyright issue is present all the time. Even photos, video etc... can be a problem. The simple solution is a disclaimer that includes immediate deleting of files that offended these rights and a threat of being banned from the platform...

I think that this is enough and is very common on every forum or portal....

As this forum is about music - sharing music is a very important part. I agree that everybody should be aware that follow copyright is protecting "small" artists and the little flower of living tradition...

Hi Guys. This is a good and important thread as this site develops. Whilst I take the common sense approach and am always careful to ask for permission first, I am not an expert and hope that members point out any transgressions by me or other members, in a positive way. There is sufficient free resources out there to enable us to act within the rules.

I am also trying to make it a mission of this site to promote young talent with their first album out, such as Donal McCague. Its important to push and promote in an uncommercial way, simply because there are probably some great players out there that I don't know about. I would also like to come to some arrangement with a recording company or someone in the know to give us a "heads up" on new talent so that we can get them first here on TradConnect. There is is a certain joy in discovering something before anyone else know about it. So if you have any ideas on this let me know.

I agree :) So a playlist tool would help.... is there any app, plugin or whatever for this platform available?

Attached File is of TROYL, the band I play with...
