Traditional Irish Music
Hi all
I'm looking for a new host for my website. Can anyone recommend a good and cheap webspace provider.

well, if you wanna pre-pay for 2 years, you can get el-cheapo $3.xx/month rate
But, I have to give a plug for ICDSOFT.COM, who have hosted my crap for 10+ years.
Great & fast support, PHP based and $6.00/month
peace,
Rich
I use Weebly.com
Thanks Rich, I will check it out. I built my own site learning HTML from scratch. I want to improve with Javasvript, PHP etc. Did you build your own site? Whatt's the URL?

I see it's quite a few months since you posted your question, Chris. Did you get sorted? Sure I might as well answer anyway because it might help someone else.
Weebly won't suit your purposes at all. It's not a web-space provider but a web-sites for complete beginners service. It's ok if you just want to get something up there quickly, but many people who use it find they want to upgrade to something more functional pretty soon, such as a self-hosted Wordpress site.
I've been using http://www.dreamhost.com/ to host my sites for years and fully recommend them. You can have as many sites as you want on one account for one price, which is great if you want to try out coding and different kinds of stuff.
You can build your site from scratch, or use their one-click installs which include Wordpress, a photo gallery, a forum, a shopfront and more. Or upload another cms of your choice. And I find they are a very ethical company. They won't auction off your domain name if you forget to renew it, for example, which some webhosting companies do.
Being an "web developer" in my work hours, a couple of good sites that I use provide capabilities for both beginner and those that want to delve off into deep stuff with .html and javascripts.
and
Depends upon what you want to do with them. For me, sometimes I'll insert my own .html scripts and other times, I just want the "service" to give me some good looking web views to post my music.
Both allow beginners to make a website for free, but you can pay to own a site with various levels of capabilities.
It's all fun. "Shaun," That KelticDead Guy. .... http://kelticdead.webs.com .
Hi Patrick, or is it Shaun?
I looked at those links and they both appear to be drag-and-drop site builder services similar to Weebly, and not actual webspace providers. Fine if they suit your purposes, but I don't think that's what Chris is looking for.
They might allow you to make some modifications with html and css, but can you code a whole site from scratch on your computer and upload it? I doubt it.
And it doesn't look like you can do any php coding, or use any of the popular open source content management systems that are based on php, such as Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Moodle, phpBB, Zencart, Gallery etc.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I couldn't see that kind of capability there at all.
Hi Ann. Your points are true, and I was only offering the sites as ways of posting one's music. There are a variety of web-development options (and forums) out there, and obviously I was mistaken as to the theme of this discussion in the context of this site. I apologize.
Thanks to everybody for their help and suggestions. Please excuse me not replying sooner. I opted for a quick and easy solution using wix.com. I have my domain parked elsewhere with web forwarding
