I was listening to a recording of our session, and I noticed that from time to time I play the first note of a part slightly ahead of the other musicians. It sounds ok to me, and I think maybe it adds a tiny bit of excitement, but I'm wondering if it is considered bad form in traditional music circles.

Hi Bernie, I think I know what you mean. I would say that it's something you could use maybe just occasionally to add a bit of a difference to the tune. Maybe practice it with a recording first to make sure it blends in with the end of the first part of the tune. It also depends on those you play with. In some sessions it might be frowned upon, but if it sounds good, then why not?!! Paul
