Traditional Irish Music
For fun, I thought we might start a list, to see which are the most popular makes & models of Tenor Banjo, to be owned & played, amongst our members here.
As you post your replies, I'll add the name of the Banjo or Banjos you play & also your name to our list below.
Cheers,
Dick

Thanks Conor.
Yes Lars, I had one of those myself, for a short while.
It was actually given to me by a complete stranger, in Aberdeen many years ago.
He heard our session & asked us along to his house the next day, to play in his back garden for a small Tea Party for his Mum & a few of her friends. It was all a bit unreal, but as we left, he handed me his Framus Banjo, which was unplayed & which was very real! ;-)
However, to be honest, I didn't really like the sound of it, it just didn't seem to be musical enough for my ear. So I later sold it.
There seems to be a love it or hate it relation to the Framus :)
Mats Lindgren plays a Framus which sounds very good to me, and i heard a Framus player in Dublin say "the Framus is like a Strat, you have to coax the sound out of it, it's not like a Les Paul/Vega that plays itself :)
(I'm just quoting here, no disrespect to any player regardless of brand or anything)
Yes, don't get me wrong here Lars, the Framus has great character, it's just that its sound was exactly the one I was looking for.
Luckily for me, when I heard & played my first Paragon, I know then that this was the sound I'd been looking for. Mind you I then had to wait for nearly 30 years before I got one.
That said, I haven't met a Fiddler yet, who isn't looking for a better Fiddle! ;-)
