Traditional Irish Music
A place to discuss whistles, their makers and performers/performance. Anything whistle related is ok, keep in mind that opinions could vary in the extreme without one being more worth per se than the other, so keep it nice and polite.

I'll start off with a tweaking tip for Clarke whistles. This one's good as a stock Clarke nearly makes you keel over dead after the first tune. After this tweak, the air requirement is down like 200% and the sound and intonation is still the…Continue

I have Book 1 and its great!! Though I've played now for two years and am going back to the beginning, her teaching is so much more thorough than found in other tutors (I count Grey Larsen's book more as a reference book) so am picking up new stuff all the time. PLUS
buying a book enrolls you in her on-line "club" which will give access to more teaching, tutorials, masterclasses etc once she gets that up and running. Fantastic!
Hi John! Well, there are a lot of options out there , depending on what you prefer. I recommend checking out some of the threads in this group. Lately there has been a lot of talk on here about a maker located in your country, Marc Löfgren, who, in my opinion makes some very fine whistles. I am very impressed by the low G I recently got, which he made. They look similar to a chieftian NR, but I've never played a Chieftain, so I can't say how similar they actually are. It seems you've made a good choice going for the bluebird, it's also a very fine whistle and a great choice. Are you looking for another low D, or other low keys? The Reviol low D is my personal favourite low D whistle. However, Goldie/Overton, MK, and Burke are also very good low whistles, though I can't say if any would be similar to a Chieftain. It really all depends on what type of sound and playability you are looking for.
Hi there . i recently bought a Jerry Freeman Bluebird and a Chieftain Nr low D, and found out that they are very easy to play and all the squeqiness is gone allthough i am just a beginner with 10 months of whistling, i feel that the quality of the whistles made me play better than ever , i would be more than happy for some tips of similar whistles especially low whistles.

I want to apologize to everyone for the lengthy outages, semi-outages, and glacial pace of the board when it does operate. As this most recent problem was developing, I was in the process of leaving town to meet my new grandson, and I'm still there. I don't think I could solve the problem if I was home, but at least I could be trying. The chronic problem, as I understand it, is our large database, which needs serious maintenance work. We've not been able to locate anyone with the expertise to help us. We have considered moving the board to a hosting service that offers more of that kind of support, but that's a huge undertaking as well. I've asked Rich, who ran the tech side of the board for a long time, to help, but he doubts he has the time or interest. I'm considering starting a new board, with a clean database, on another hosting service, but the problems with that are obvious. In any case, I've very sorry that this has happened.
Apparently it's been up & down all day. Dale posted on the C&F facebook page that the hosting company says they're fixing some hardware issues.
