PS: Don't be shy, group members, i feel like a monolog in here :(

This will bore some to tears, but it is a great excercise, recommended by very and i mean *very* skilled players, so don't frown ; )

That is a technique that pipers use and is not used in the Sligo style of playing

AFAIK it's not used in any style of actual whistle 'playing' but it's good excercise to get snappy rolls and cuts and generally "Taming" fingers not used to do naturally what whistle playing is about.

Hi Carmmel, could you elaborate more on the Sligo style? As someone who lives outside the Emerald Isle altogether, the concept of regional styles of play is a closed book to me. Could you tell me, and no doubt others, more about what's "in" and whats "out" ? What typical Sligo playing is like? What makes it different to other regions?

I know your a busy lady, but anything you could share with me on this would be fascinating.

Totally Turquoise Telford

A weird (in a funny way) website with tunes, fingering charts and whatnots, worth a look!

One of my quite recent compositions 'Langton's of Kilkenny'(Hornpipe) that I think works well for the Whistle. Most of my compositions are really aimed at the Whistle or Flute.
