Traditional Irish Music
I am learning the Irish Penny Whistle and I just love it! But I have a basic question, Which produces the better sound, a metal whistle or a wooden one?
Also, where is the best place to buy a wooden one? I work in wood my self and was thinking of making one from a piece of Persimmon Wood. Is there someplace you can get a Blueprint or something?
Here is a list of people I am learning the Penny Whistle From:
Eamonn de Barra, Father Ryan G. Duns, and Elizabeth Valez Urie
I am from Omaha, NE in the USA.
Oh yes! This is my first post.
It is open for debate whether wood or metal whistles sound best. I'd say the material means preciously little. I have whistles in brass, brass/wood, aluminum and african blackwood and there's no winner really, it's all a matter of taste and preference.
I'd also say that any really good whistle has to be ordered from the maker.
You've found some good sources for learning there :)
I've been told that you need a lathe and a gun drill to make wooden whistles.
Hope this helps!
All the best!
