Any Londoners want to meet up for Tunes in July?

Started Jun 24, 2015 0 Replies

I'm traveling to London for work on July 7 and was hoping I could meet up with some people for some tunes while I'm there. I'm free Thursday and Friday evenings (July 9 and 10). Also, does anyone…Continue

So, I have a question.  I'm trying to track down a recording but it seems to be difficult to find. It's quite expensive from amazon.  If any of you have access to this album or know where I could…Continue

Killarney is Katie Davis Henderson on fiddle and Colin Botts on octave mandolin.  Together they play traditional Irish music with a large range.  From the stripped down and simple to the technically complex, they burst with energy and artistry.

Hiya Katie,

This is just a line to say thanks for joining the Carolan group. I hope you get lots of fun out of your membership and find the inspiration to learn lots of “new” tunes from amongst the archives. Even if you don't do one every day :-)

As a member, you are most welcome to contribute to any of the group discussions, add new ones, nominate a “tune of the week”, find content for any of the archives etc etc. The group is pointless without member contributions so don’t be shy!!!!

I also welcome any and all suggestions about how the group can be improved – so don’t be shy about that either!! – Oh, and if you see me on the “Chat” screen in Tradconnect, please come and say Hi.

Kind regards,

It is! There is a real intensity to it. It’s a bit beyond my current skill set but I’m going to play it one of these days.

Hi Katie! Can you tell me where you found the tune 'Ringing the Bell'? It's such a great tune and yet I've been unable to track down any other version of it, much less the dots. Did you happen to write it yourself?

Hello there, your crookedness! Here's a wee hornpipe that did my head in on the pipes, maybe a challenge *just to remember all the bloody parts* : )

(The tune starts after the song, around 2:50 )

Addition: Forgot to mention it's Boys of the lough/Aly Bain, an old live recording from 1974

I've been fiddling since age 4, performing sine 9, and teaching since 16. I love traditional Irish music and began dabbling in other styles including bluegrass and Old-Time a few years ago.

My newest project is New Tune A Day. Everyday (at least 5-6 days a week) I learn a new tune by ear. I upload recordings of these tunes on my blog: http://newtuneaday.blogspot.com. I hope you follow along!

I play in the Irish trad duo Killarney with octave mandolin player Colin Botts. We released our first album this year called Pull the Knife. Colin currently studies traditional Irish music at the University of Limerick. You can hear and purchase tracks from the album here: http://killarney.bandcamp.com.

New Town, New Project!

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 21:00 0 Comments

I just moved to the Washington DC area this month. It is a wonderful change of pace (and elevation and humidity and temperature) from the mountains of Colorado! I have completed my New Tune A Day project, and have since posted three tutorial videos, meant mostly for people who are already familiar with the instrument but interested in getting into the Irish tradition. I'm looking for jobs now in my other, non-music field (the field I went to graduate…

Playing for others vs. Playing for yourself

So I have a Youtube channel where I post all the tunes I learn. (My goal is about 4 or 5 tunes a week, sometimes I make it, sometimes I don't.)

There's a place on youtube where you can see a list of all of your videos with their statistics. I notice that my eyes are always drawn to the column of "dislikes" or Thumbs Down ratings that my videos get. It always hurts my feelings to see that some viewers don't like some of my videos, but why should it? And I why are humans always…

Crazy Chicken Fiddle, as a way of thanking you all.

To thank you for showcasing a lowly american fiddler here on tradconnect, I present:

This fiddler is Lisa Haley, and when she's not singing like a chicken, she plays Cajun and Zydeco music with the Zydecats.
