Yes, I am now expecting to be here until the weekend of July 14, at which time Diane will have received two full cycles of a chemo regimen we hope she will be able to endure and continue at home. Meanwhile, I have found a session at an Irish Pub in Chapel Hill, and sent Jim Schneider a long description of it. Here is a cut-and-paste of part of my message to him:

*****START CUT-AND--PASTE

In Irish Music news, I have found a session at an Irish pub in Chapel Hill. In fact, I just returned from there little more than an hour ago; it runs from 7 to 10 pm on Wednesdays (though a few diehards were still playing as I left around 10:15). These folks are tried and true Trad musicians, and there are a lot of them:  Last week there were seven fiddle players, three whistle players counting myself, a guitar, a mandolin, a flute, a concertina, a bodhran, and an uilleann piper. They know every tune I know, and hundreds I never heard of. One of the fiddle players ripped off a set of about ten tunes without a pause, smoothly transitioning from one to another, and most of the other players were able to follow him on at least some of them. One of the whistle players is a 17-year-old girl who is a better whistler than I may ever be. Tonight's session was a bit smaller, with only three fiddlers, two flute players, two mandolins, a bodhran, a guitar, and two whistles counting mine (but one of the mandolin players occasionally took up a second bodhran instead of his mandolin). I was able to record most of tonight's playing, and I hope it came out well enough for me to use to try to learn a few of the tunes one of these days. I'm probably out of my league with them, but they have not shooed me away (maybe because they know I'm only in town a bit longer :-) ).  It's a welcome diversion from what has become my normal life at this time.

*****END CUT-AND-PASTE

My recordings from last night do seem to be good enough for me to use for learning--although it is hard to find much time for it. But I keep trying.
