I've been a professional violinist & fiddler since the late 1970s, focusing on playing Irish fiddle for about 15 years now. (Although I've played professionally in Celtic, bluegrass, classical, swing, Americana and country styles as well.) As an Irish fiddler, I've made multiple research and performance trips to Ireland. I'm a founding member of Celtic/world music group Mithril which often performs as guest artists with symphony orchestras. My latest Irish duo project Banna de dhá (with Charleston SC guitarist/vocalist Hazel Ketchum) has performed on Celtic festivals and concert series and our CD ‘Band of Two’ has received airplay on radio stations across the U.S.
I lead Fiddle Workshops and Irish Trad Slow Sessionsthroughout the Southeast, am on the faculty of the Mark O’Connor String Method Camps, and also Fiddle Hell Massachusetts. I've performed on dozens of album projects, from Celtic/World music with Mithril, Irish traditional with Banna de dhá, chamber music with Silverwood Quartet, jazz and swing with 78rpm and New Orleans clarinetist Tim Laughlin, to an eclectic mix of all styles featured on my own solo album The Raven’s Wing. My method book, Learn To Play Irish Trad Fiddle, was published in 2012 and has received positive reviews in publications including Fiddler magazine and Irish Music magazine. Check me out at and

Just cast my vote for album of the year - lots of mighty music in that list.  Listened to your Father Kelly's/Paddy Fahey's and really like it. I learned (& forgot) a Paddy Fahey's at Swannanoa fifteen years ago - wonder if it was this one!

Hi Tom,The Greenmantle session is no more.    There's a much better session I go to in the Canons Gait pub on the Royal Mile, Wednesdays 9pm.    Its pretty big - 10-20 players, mostly fiddlers - but the pub has loads of room.

For a much faster session, there's the famous Sandy Bells pub in Edinburgh.  This has music on just about every night, but its pretty small and cramped.

There's also a session on at the Whiski Bar, Royal Mile, on tuesdays at 9pm. Not sure what its like though.
