This was just a whistle-stop drop-in to Copenhagen for a concert in the lovely lovely Portalen Theatre. http://www.portalen.dk
Capacity audience all seated with candlelit tables. The organisers had done a wonderful job setting up the hall and the stage. Henning on sound couldn't have been more helpful, even finding a beautiful Taylor spanish guitar so that Chris could play a lovely solo which suited spanish rather than his own steel stringed…

Like the rest of the world, since 2008, life has just not been that much fun, so I tend to celebrate the little things in life, a call from a client asking for a quote, finishing a job, or better still, having corrective eye surgery that lets me see like a young man again. So I decided to celebrate by jumping in the car and driving to the mountains and touring Cades Cove, a well-visited primitive…

Glasgow based but with strong connections to Donegal, sisters Anna, Sheila and Clare Friel pack more artistic punch than the Kilfenora and Tulla Céilí bands combined on their debut recording. Their versatility on a range of instruments including uilleann pipes, flute, whistle and mouth organ adds depth to the recording. They take each set with a determined and focused intent, biting…

The Leinster Fleadh Cheoil 2014 is being held in Moate, Co. Westmeath from 7th-13th July hosted by Westmeath County Board of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.
As you all know, major funding is needed for a festival of this scale especially with a province the size of Leinster so all support for Fundraisers would be greatly appreciated. Please note that the website for this year's Fleadh still has to be updated so you will just find info from last year's event in Edenderry…

Catch the Air is Gavin Whelan's fifth album and follows very much in the footsteps of Homelands, released in 2011. It also features some of the tunes from that album in new settings. While Homelands featured 8 slow airs among its 15 tracks, this album goes a step further with the entire album devoted to airs and hence the album’s name.…

From the opening notes of Joe Kilmurray's slip jig you know you are in the twilight zone of traditional music. Accordionist Peter Carberry and piper Pádraig McGovern have moulded from their intuition and respect for the music, one of the year’s best albums. Peter's accordion playing is mellow and…
