A weekend on tour.

Well.. maybe tour is stretching it some, but two pub gigs anyway, friday and saturday, with the band 'Cuts and crans' we had a good time and some good music although the audience failed to show last night. It escapes me how/why the owner had us start so early?! By the time we'd done our three sets and started packing, the people began coming in in numbers.. Oh well..

Here's a clip featuring T.C. member Hasse Ljungdahl (thanks for the lodging btw) playing 'The snowy breasted…

Tara Breen - All Ireland Fiddle Champion 2011

Its worth celebrating our traditional Irish music champions. Tara Breen won the All Ireland in 2011. Here we have a selection of tunes from Tara who has won All-Ireland honours on several instruments. Tara plays a hornpipe, "The Second Star" learned from the playing of Dessie Donnelly, followed by two reels: "Paddy Ryan's Dream" and "President Garfield's", which she learned from the playing of fiddle player Máire O'Keefe.

Cathal McConnell & Co. reunion.

So last night i went to nearby town of Lund, the old dairy to see the guys again.

Glad i did, amazing concert again, nice relaxed and cozy, small venue. Had the chance to talk to Cathal, Gerry and Martin and even squeeze in a (very short) flute duet with Cathal, playing 'Valentia harbour'

All in all, another night to remember for life!

This time i decided not to be cheap, and bought Cathal's song book with accompanying audio DVD…

1,000 Members - Thank you all, each and every one.

1,000 members. Wow. After only 6 months, nearly to the day, it is fantastic to have seen TradConnect grow from a simple idea. To each and every member thank you for coming on board. To our members who are back here every day and night, thank you. To all who have spread the word and have helped TradConnect grow, a very special thank you.

In overall terms we are still very young as a social forum. It takes several thousand members to keep a forum alive. Everyone uses them in different…

Album Review - Enda Seery / The Winding Clock

The Winding Clock is the debut album by Enda Seery from Streamstown in Co. Westmeath. We are well aware on Tradconnect of his abilities both as a musician and as a composer.  From the opening notes of the first tune on the album…

Years of searching finally over!

By chance i heard one of the most moving, beautiful airs again last night. First heard Liam Óg O'Flynn play it in a documentary about Seamus Ennis, and after that spent years looking for "Valencia Harbour"

Then last night i found out it's 'Valentia' (Ireland) not 'Valencia' Spain.. If only computers could have the decency to suggest "Mate, i think what you're looking for is Valentia, not Valencia"..

Anyway, here it is, beautifully played by Christy O'Leary and Cathal…

Grá a Mhamó

I remember as a young lad, along with my brothers, spending a goodly portion of our days, especially during school year at my baile seanathair nó seanmháthair an (the grandparent's home).  Both our parents, as many did, worked.  We would eat our share of her home cooked Irish fare, listen as she sang songs she learned as a girl back in Eireann.  Even the radio was somehow tuned to Irish music, and so were her records (some may remember those vynl things that…

Lazy Bear

I was in hibernation for a while because I think it's the time of the year. I will try harder and get my act together soon. I need to post more and of course write more. I miss the forum too. Anyhow things are looking up :)

Further collaboration between Kildare and Derbyshire - The Canal In October

Well, this one is bit different. I found this French accordian tune and fell in love with it. I was actually on the Tradconnect live chat section at the time I found it, sharing tunes, swapping links etc - as usual!

Once learned however, I was about to throw it out because it did'nt actually seem to go where I wanted it to.

Queue Dulahan to the rescue!

Another large slice of Kildare sourcery and the excellent playing skills of Joe and Adele have saved it. Thanks…
