Traditional Irish Music
1,000 members. Wow. After only 6 months, nearly to the day, it is fantastic to have seen TradConnect grow from a simple idea. To each and every member thank you for coming on board. To our members who are back here every day and night, thank you. To all who have spread the word and have helped TradConnect grow, a very special thank you.
In overall terms we are still very young as a social forum. It takes several thousand members to keep a forum alive. Everyone uses them in different ways. Some dip in every now and again. Others come back every day. I know that already some very strong relationships have developed on the site. I have also had the pleasure of playing with a couple of members. Some from Dublin and others from the USA. In the coming months there are a few members promising to come to our Dublin session. This is always great as it is an opportunity to meet players that you would never get the chance to meet. Hopefully it is also a nice welcome to our city to visitors from across the water.
In the coming days I am going to publish a list of all members by country, county and state. That should make interesting viewing and should help members seek out other players in their area if required.
As TradConnect develops I see it as having three levels of engagement. Firstly as a site where people can simply observe, read the discussions, watch the videos and get an idea of the level that other people are at in their music or sessions.
Secondly through the CHAT feature and Groups feature people can form connections and get to know other players across the world. The CHAT feature is a great way to get to know others and I would advise everyone to drop in and say hello every now and again.
Thirdly if people want they can connect locally with other players. This is entirely up to the members. As the site grows groups will be formed in the various areas, with members listed. Eventually it is hoped that connections will form from here. So if you are short a player for your group or session you may just find them here on TradConnect. Alternatively you may want to start a practice group in your area. If so you may have a ready made membership here on this site. We will need another couple of thousand members before there will be sufficient numbers to make this work, so we will slowly have to build it up over time. The list of the first thousand will be interesting in seeing how membership is made up.
So lets see where the next 6 months takes us. If you like this site keep adding discussions, blogs, videos, interesting links. The more you add the more interest there is for other members that visit the site. Supporting a vibrant discussion forum is again dependent on a large membership so as the site grows the more its objectives become self fulfilling. So if you like the site and want it to succeed for you the members, spread the word, get more members on, get more discussions...self fulfilling.
Finally as we progress there are lots of options to explore, live streaming, onsite tune database, album reviews and no doubt lots more that I have not even considered. The idea of promoting and attracting new young rising stars is something that appeals to me. We are promoting their albums on our front page and will continue to do so.
So onwards and upwards. Lets create the best and most vibrant bunch or traditional Irish musicians in the world.
Thank you, thank you, thank you...and keep coming back.
