Traditional Irish Music
Yvonne Bolton from Co. Laois is an accomplished fiddle and concertina player, while Alan Jordan (guitar, vocals, low whistle) is from Co. Mayo and now lives in Limerick. Both are graduates of the Irish World Academy and have rich and diverse musical backgrounds that combine to make great music. They will be launching their album Silver threads this Friday 14th in Shannon Rowing Club, Sarsfield Bridge, Limerick.
The musicians describe it as "No gimmicks; just authentic, flowing and well arranged music that satisfies anyone who values artistic integrity and innovation in traditional and folk music. The arrangements vary from basic concertina and guitar to bigger sounds, incorporating fiddle, low whistle, cello, bass and bodhrán with Alan singing two songs as well. It's an album which highlights the duo's respect for melody, as well as the willingness to look beyond the sterotypical boundaries in order to create good music."
On the basis of this sample track it sounds very accomplished indeed. You can check it out on Bandcamp and we will be reviewing this month. The album features two thirds original material and one third primarily from the Irish tradition. The album also features Joe O Dubhghaill, Dermot Sheedy and Matteo Cullen.
