Traditional Irish Music
Rooska Hill by Éamonn O’Riordan and Tony O’Connell, is without doubt one of the highlights of 2015. It is about as good as it gets, when it comes to a traditional recording, and it captures the vibrancy and authenticity that can elude many an artist. Approaching the project they both felt the need to record live and to keep it real. A lot of records use that approach, but only a handful each year hit the mark as perfectly as this. Their ability to get to the heart of the music over the course of 15 tracks, through tune selection, accompaniment, and recording techniques is inspiring. The meeting of two masters ably supported by Arty McGlynn and Gearóid Ó Duinnín on guitars and Brian Mooney on bouzouki, deliver a classic recording. They also balance the tracks nicely, with slides, barndances and flings making up half the album. Words can only convey so much, and a close listen to our sample track below will give a clear indication of what is in store. This set includes Aine’s Reel and the Clare Reel. Traditional Irish music really doesn't get much better that this. Masterful.
