Magnetic South by Four Star Trio is the second album by musicians Con Fada Ó Drisceoil, Johnny McCarthy and Pat “Herring” Ahern. The music of Sliabh Luachra is centre stage as you can imagine. If you like your slides and polkas, then this group unravel a gem of an album that paints a vivid picture of the music, the area, and the people that inhabit it. As a listening experience you simply soak it up without the need to seek anything else from it.
It has an honest and raw feel, being more representative of a session atmosphere than a studio recording which is always a positive in my book. This gives it life and authenticity. The fresh energy that they bring springs more from a “lets just play our music” attitude, rather than an over analysis of arrangements. From three seasoned musicians you would expect nothing less. A delight.
