Album Review - Nathan Gourley & Laura Feddersen / Life is all Checkered

Life is all Checkered by Nathan Gourley and Laura Feddersen was one of the musical highlights of 2014. It was in our top 5 albums of the year and could easily have taken the top spot.  Its use of complementary drones and chordal harmonies and the musicians general approach to the arrangements unearthed some tantalising sounds.

They find perfect harmony as they track each other through some outstanding sets including The Blackbird/The Road to Garrison which we include below.  Beautifully layered and rendered, it has a deep earthy sound that is both gritty and welcoming at the same time.

They find oceans of space within the tunes and never falter in their approach across 15 tracks. The guitar and bouzouki of Brian Miller perfectly complements the flow of their music and adds significantly to the final sound. If you like the tracks below, then 13 more of equal appeal await you. Outstanding music.
