Album Review - Robbie Mac Gowran / The Irish Way

Robbie Mac Gowran has been back in the studio early in 2014 for another whistle album called The Irish Way.  It’s his 3rd album and features 15 tracks of what could be considered traditional standards. Tunes like Out on the Ocean, Pigeon on the Gate, The Longford Tinker, Calliopi House and many others.  We caught up with Robbie last year when he had just released an album called Basically and we also did an interview with him which you can read here.  He has been playing music for over 3o years and takes matters into his own hands when it comes to recording albums. The Irish Way was recorded in a local studio near to his home in County Wicklow.  As with previous recordings his playing is expressive and honest with the arrangements paired back to the basics. For anyone interested in whistle tunes played at a reasonable pace its worth checking out.  He is joined on the album by Eamon Troy on Guitar and bouzouki and Robbie Walsh on bodhrán.
