Traditional Irish Music
If fiddle music is your cultural fix then this release by Therese McInerney may just get you through whatever challenges you are facing in life. It is music to lift the spirits.
Down the Strand is her debut album, and the promise shown in her youth has not deserted her. As a debut recording it is heartfelt, resonant and has within it the natural expression that can so often elude young musicians in the studio for the first time.
The carefully chosen repertoire brings out the best in some great tune sets. The opening tunes which include Crib of Perches and Morning Star set the album up for a classic sound with Brian Donnellan on bouzouki. The following Tune for Tom and Therese’s Tune are noteworthy self compositions that she plays with the Finbar Dwyer composition Ahern’s Egg.
To add interest to the recording she includes a number of vocal tracks, Fair and Tender Ladies and Do You Love an Apple which display an outstanding traditional voice.
This is a deeply rewarding recording for anyone that cares about great traditional fiddle.
