Ályth McCormack releases 3 tracks from 'People Like Me'

Ályth McCormack has released a selection of songs from her second solo album called  'People Like Me'. The album was released on Navigator Records and includes traditional and contemporary songs in both English and Gaelic. She includes the work of songwriters like Boo Hewerdine, Justin Currie and Jim Malcolm. "The Gaelic sung tracks range from an accapella ‘Mo Ghaol Oigfhear A Chuil Duinn’ to a spirited ‘The Vices Set (puirt set)."

On the songs included below she says "I Wonder What's Keeping My True Love Tonight, I learned from the singing of June Tabor. A Smuggler's Prayer was written for me by the great singer songwriter Boo Hewerdine. Chaidil mi raoir air an airigh is a 'waulking song'. I have written about them here before. 'Waulking' is part of the original process in the making of Harris Tweed. Women would compose songs as they worked to keep time and to entertain themselves. This is about a particularly cheeky fella."
You can also check out her duet album with Tríona Marshall called Red & Gold which we reviewed some time back.
