Today i got my new flute from Rob Forbes , a short foot Pratten-esque D- flute in Delrin.

Intonation is lovely, sound is strong and resonant, the flute buzz between your fingers! :)

Only had it for a few hours, but i am impressed so far! A bargain for the price, really!

Very nice makers mark!

Here's a pic of the clever O-ring sealed tenons, i really like the idea of a season/Guinness-proof flute that is as good as this one!

I will try to make Maestro Markus make a soundfile as i don't feel i do it justice yet.

Cheers!

Thanks Anton!

I haven't had time yet to play the flute except here at home, but i do expect that the pitch will shift a bit regardless of material, since Delrin will also warm up, and hence the air will travel faster through it..

I never camp and very seldom play outdoors, my primary concerns with timber flutes is the murderously dry winters over here, and it also feels good that i won't get a heart attack if someone spills a pint all over it at a session :)

Nice, thats beautiful!  Nice pictures too, flutes are hard to photograph.

His prices are quite reasonable, I'll have to keep this in mind if I decide to get a delrin flute in the future. Its tempting, but I dont really travel or camp with my flute enough to justify it right now. Do you find that delrin has to warm up like a wooden flute does before it will be at pitch?

We are lucky in that there are lots of great makers these days providing wonderful instruments.

Anton
