At First Light will embark on their first tour of the North of Ireland for some time, visiting Strabane, Limavady, Downpatrick and Belfast. They will no doubt be playing lots of music from their album Idir. Check out our album review which we did some time back. They will be giving workshops on Uilleann Pipes, Fiddle, Guitar, Bodhran, Whistle & traditional singing in Strabane, Co. Tyrone on the 27th of October as part of The Johnny Crampsie festival. In November they will be playing at what they describe as one of their their favourite festivals - The William Kennedy Piping Festival in Armagh. This will feature fourteen groups on three stages in a five hour programme of piping and traditional music from Ireland, England, Scotland and Europe. Other performers include ‘Seudan’, ‘Distil Ancience’, ‘The Mick O’Brien Trio’, ‘Topanga’, ‘Ioscaid’, fiddle and pipes duet Chris Stout and Finlay MacDonald, piper Ronan Browne, Karan Casey, ‘Buille’, Jarlath Henderson, piper Rory Campbell from ‘Deaf Shepherd’ and locally based groups ‘Realta’, ‘Cúig’ and ‘Sioda’, and the Armagh Pipers Club ‘Big Band’.

In other news  Band members John McSherry and Dónal O' Connor were recently commissioned to compose the title music for a new TV program called 'Amhráin Aduaidh' which will feature some of the finest singers in the Ulster song tradition including their very own Ciara McCrickard. The series will be broadcast by TG4 in the autumn. Francis McIlduff is currently completing his much awaited solo CD and we're all very excited about this release. We'll keep you posted on release dates etc. Dónal has also been busy in the studio working on some interesting projects which will be released before the end of 2012. Amongst others, he is producing Belfast singer songwriter Jim Rainey's first solo release and has mixed a CD for a new group called Realta.

At First Light also took part in an episode of Tg4's Geantraí which was recorded in Carlingford, Co. Louth and which features; Zoe Conway & John McIntyre, Pádraigín NíUallacháin & Macdara O'hUallachain Graham, Síoda & Stevie Dunne. The programme was also presented by Dónal and will broadcast in early 2013.
