Traditional Irish Music
This is Track 1 of the 2014 album 'Friars Green' by Blackie O' Connell and Cyril O' Donoghue. Blackie provides some outline notes to the tunes in the liner notes.
On this set he says. 'Friars Green is a tune composed by Carlow piper Ciarán Byrne. I've known Ciarán for a few years from different festivals and he is a fantastic player. I heard him play this tune one night at the John Dwyer festival in Waterford and asked him if I could record it."
The London Jig comes from a set of tunes I heard Paddy Keenan play live, in the Templegate Hotel, Ennis around January '97. I had never witnessed such mastery of an instrument before.
The Stormy Night is a composition of Paddy O' Brien (1922-1991) a prolific composer from Newton, Co.Tipperary."
