We launched the album on Tradconnect in February of this year and it is available to broadcasters who are part of our Download Centre. As a member of the legendary Black Family, which includes her mother, Frances, and her aunt, Mary, Aoife has been building her name on the folk scene for the last number of years, and this release has added significantly to her growing reputation. “Confidence in her own material, and some well-orchestrated arrangements lift the album high above the plethora of traditional folk albums that are released each year. Simply interpreting traditional standards was not an option, and her preference for new material carries the day.” US audiences will get a chance to hear this material for the first time on this her first solo tour in the US.
Regarding her material Aoife says she would call herself a Dublin folk singer with traditional roots. “I think that this sums up the mood and sound of the album and my music. It’s a selection of stories that I wanted to tell, from modern day female warriors to real life heroines from the 1800’s. It’s my own personal journey through life - referencing my lovely brother getting married on an Island, through to my own personal heaven in Dublin Bay.”
Two songs feature her own personal stance on social injustice, with a cover of ‘What you do with what you got’, (Written by Si Kahn - made famous by Dick Gaughan) and her own newly written ‘We know where we stand’.
The tour will include Michigan Irish Music Fest, South Shore Irish Festival, The Burren BackRoom, Chief O’ Neills Chicago, Hudson Valley Irish Fest, NY Irish Center to mention just a few.
