Traditional Irish Music
For this special evening, legendary singing sensation, Maura O’Connell joins the internationally acclaimed ensemble, Cherish The Ladies, led by the irrepressible and award winning flute and whistle player, Joanie Madden for a spectacular night of entertainment of Irish traditional music, song and dance.
The past years have seen the group touring all over North and South America, the United Kingdom and Europe, China, Australia and New Zealand performing in the finest concert halls and international festivals. During their travels, they have attained numerous awards and achievements including: Best Musical Group of the Year by the BBC, Top North American Celtic Group at the Irish Music Awards, Entertainment Group of the Year by the Irish Voice Newspaper, chosen the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall's International Group of the Year at the Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland and voted Top North American Celtic Act by NPR Radio.
Maura O’Connell hails from Ennis in County Clare and began her professional musical journey during a six-week tour of America in 1980, as vocalist for the traditionally based Celtic group DeDanann. The following year, she was featured on the band's landmark album, The Star-Spangled Molly, which became something of a national phenomenon in her homeland, not unlike the 1993 compilation, A Woman's Heart, (featuring Maura and several other popular Irish female artists), a copy of which was estimated to be in every single home in Ireland.
She has been summoned to sing with, among others, Van Morrison, James Taylor, Nanci Griffith, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, The Chieftains and Roseanne Cash. She has recorded numerous solo albums, but two have garnished Grammy nominations including her 2010 solo endeavor Naked with Friends. Source : http://www.glor.ie
