Coleman Irish Music Centre to launch eCommerce website

Leading traditional music centre, The Coleman Irish Music Centre in Gurteen, Co. Sligo will launch its new website ( with full eCommerce shopping facilities later this month. Labhrás Ó Murchú, Ardstiúrthóir of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann will perform the official launch on Friday 26th April.

“We wanted to expand our online presence from just a website to one with seamless online shopping capability and thanks to funding from Sligo Leader Partnership”, explained John McGettrick, manager of The Coleman Irish Music Centre, “We’ve worked very closely with web developers OSD to produce an online shopping store which is fully integrated with our existing retail shop. Now we can fulfil orders from anywhere in the country or indeed around the world”.

The online store stocks everything from over 700 different CDs of traditional music to DVDs, tuition books and instruments. “Our focus is very much on Irish made instruments”, says John McGettrick, “Additionally we have a great stock of starter instruments at attractive prices – we want to encourage people who are just beginning to play traditional Irish music and foster their music careers”.

The Coleman Irish Music Centre is dedicated to the memory and music of Michael Coleman, one of the most illustrious emigrant traditional musicians of all time. The centre in Gurteen houses an archive of recordings and material relating to the south Sligo style. It comprises an impressive tiered theatre holding 140 people, a traditional Irish music school and a visitor centre. Three miles away at the birthplace of the master musician Michael Coleman, a replica of his homestead and forge where he learned to play is also open to visitors. 

The Centre opened its doors twenty years ago in 1999 with the aim of preserving the musical heritage of the area and using it to attract more visitors. It is the Regional Resource Centre for Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann for Counties Sligo, Mayo, Leitrim, Roscommon and Fermanagh.

The official launch of the new website and eCommerce facility will take place on Friday 26th April 2019 at 3pm and everyone is invited to attend.
