It's good to have Conal Ó Gráda on Tradconnect. For a long time I had him for breakfast every morning. You get up, go down to the kitchen and the sound of his music filled the room. Every morning of every week for many a month. Then myself and my wife would shut the door, leave him there and head to work on the underground with the sound of music ringing in our ears. Now before we get carried away, when we returned home he wasn't still there, eating our loaves and fishes.

The tape, yes tape, that we played every morning, nearly two decades ago,  was his album "The Top of Coom" and what an album that was. My wife was learning to play flute at the time and on the recommendation of our music teacher, the legendary Brendan Mulkaire, he commanded that if you weren't waking up to the sound of traditional music every morning then you would never get inside its skin. It would never seep into your bones and eventually become part of who you are. I still to this day don't know if he was saying this with a twinkle in his eye. Nonetheless we took his advise. Anyway Conal, that album still rings in my ears.

Conal is also an anchor member of The Raw Bar Collective along with Benny McCarthy (accordion) & Dave Sheridan (fiddle). Upcoming gig listings and information can be found on rawbarcollective.com.
