Press Release : Crossing the Sea, the first album by Fiona Howell, flutist and Sean-Nos singer, is now available as a CD and download . All of the songs are traditional Irish songs and tunes, except for the first track, Cathain, written by Ronan O' Snodaigh of Kila. The 10 tracks include "Gan Ainm" and "Farewell To Glasgow" (learned from Pete Purvis of Gaelic Storm) and "Craigie Hills" (learned from John Doyle of The Alt). Contributing musicians include Steve Wehmeyer, bodhrán (Gaelic Storm) and Chris Gray, uilleann pipes. The album was mastered by Irish flute and whistle player Grey Larsen. The CD art refers to the myth of the selkie. Crossing the Sea is also available on CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon, and Soundcloud.
Fiona Howell plays flute and whistle, and is also a vocalist. She began playing and singing in sessions at Irish House, New Orleans, LA and May Kelly s Cottage, North Conway, NH. She has studied and jammed with Nicole Rabata, Shannon Heaton, Nuala Kennedy, Brian Finnegan, Hanz Araki, John Whelan. Crescent City Celtic Band, John Doyle, Michael Black, the Press Gang, Vishtén, and Gaelic Storm. She has performed at the Celtic Celebration, Belfast.
